Developer Relations Consultant

Location: Newport, Shropshire (UK) or remote in Western Europe.

Hoopy is the leading consultancy dedicated to developer relations and developer experience. We work with companies across the world to help them understand, win and serve developer audiences.

Our mission is to help companies better serve developers and to professionalise how the industry approaches developer relations, marketing and experience. As such, alongside our consultancy work, we run the DevRelCon/DevXcon series of events, the DevRel.net website, the DevRel newsletter and, in 2018, we’ll launch new initiatives to further developer relations education and intelligence.

We’re excited to say that we're growing fast. Clients like what we offer and speakers, attendees and sponsors get value from our events. To meet growing demand, we’re hiring an experienced practitioner to help us serve more clients, shape our events and build new resources.

If you want to work as part of a friendly team that believes strongly in work-life balance, will give you the opportunity to build your profile and grow into new skills, then read on.

Responsibilities

Hoopy is a consultancy. That means our precise offering depends on the expertise of our team. So, the responsibilities of this role depend just as much on what you can bring as it does on what we need today.

However, there are some responsibilities that are core to the role.

About you

To succeed in this role, you don’t need to be Twitter-famous. Instead, you need to be thoughtful, curious and have both built and implemented developer relations/experience strategy.

Ideally, you’ve spent at least the past three years working as a practitioner. Perhaps you’ve also taken a leadership role, but that’s not essential.

What’s important to us is not just that you know how developers think, where they gather and how to excite them, but that you also know how to make that relevant to the business that’s paying the bills. Culturally, you’re equally happy talking tech in a t-shirt at a meet-up as you are presenting to the board. You don’t need deep knowledge of every latest tech fad but you should be able to hold your own in conversations on topics that developers care about.

What we offer

This is a role where you’ll get to work with some of the most interesting developer-oriented companies, build a high profile in dev rel and learn from experienced practitioners. As Hoopy is a small company, you’ll have excellent opportunities to learn, take responsibility and achieve.

We strongly believe in work-life balance, although around events there are some early starts and later finishes. Ultimately, though, we’re a human-first company.

If full-time doesn't suit you, we're also looking for trusted freelance consultants and writers.
